My laptop has seen better days so I am now in hot pursuit of another. What kind? I am not sure yet, but I am sure it will be a HP laptop with at least a 17″ screen (perhaps larger). Why so big? Well, my laptop now has a 17″ screen and it is awesome. Being a gamer, I didn’t realize how many fine details I was missing with my smaller screen until I upgraded and, let me tell you, the heavens opened.

A larger screen allows the user to see the finer details easier than a smaller screen allows. Every detail is in your face and you don’t have to strain to see anything. While a regular sized screen makes a gamer feel like an outsider while playing, a larger screen makes the game come alive, allowing the gamer to feel like he is actually in the game.

Another advantage of a large screen is the ability to watch TV/movies on your computer with more clarity. A large screen easily broadcasts movies and TV programs on a laptop so the user doesn’t have to squint to see what is going on. It is the big screen version of a mini tv. A user can finally go from regular to full screen without the picture looking really weird.

One drawback of a large laptop screen, however, is if the screen doesn’t have enough pixels, like a TV, the picture will appear grainy and blurry when going from regular view to full screen (i.e. when watching TV/movies). Another set back is the price. Larger screened laptops are more expensive than a regular or mini screen but the extra money is worth the upgrade especially if a user is a gamer or likes to watch tv/movies on the computer. Lastly, larger screened laptops are usually larger overall making transport a little awkward and heavy (especially at the airport) and the user sometimes has to shell out more for a larger computer bag to account for the extra width. Overall, however, I wouldn’t pass up a larger screen because the clarity outweighs the price and bulkiness.
