When you’re a businessman, you’ll need a laptop that can handle the rigors of regular, sustained use.  Small business laptops are a necessity to function in the business world. Some businesses by laptops that are too cheap and wear out or malfunction at inconvenient times.  So, when looking around for a laptop, it’s imperative to choose a small business laptop that will work best for you.

The first thing you should do is set a budget for your new laptop.  Know how much you can spend before going to the store or shopping online.  The greater your budget is, the more selection you will have to choose from.  If you only have $500 to spend, expect to get a cheap, sometimes unreliable computer (there are exceptions however).  Financing may be a good plan if you don’t have a lot of cash right now but want to get a nice computer.  Check around for available small business finance plans as well as personal finance plans that will work for you.

Once you have an established price range, it’s time to think about the features you need in a laptop.  Features you “need” doesn’t necessarily mean features you “want” however.  Do you need a durable notebook that can handle being at a construction site?  Do you need a computer with a graphics card to handle PhotoShop or Maya?  How big of a screen do you need?  Does the laptop need to be portable?  Is battery life important?  Once you’ve established the features that you need in a laptop, figure out the features you want.  These features could be a built in Blu-ray player or gaming graphics card.  Once you’ve figured out all the features you need and want, it’s time to go looking for a laptop.

There are many great places to look for small business laptops.  From online at Newegg, Amazon.com, and Tiger Direct to local stores like Wal-mart, Best Buy, and OfficeMax, there are many places to shop.  Buying locally has some perks over buying over the internet.  For one, you have the perk of instant gratification.  Even if the laptop is for work, it’s still fun to buy it and try it out.  Plus, if you have any problems with the laptop, you can return it without having to deal with shipping and that other nonsense.  But of course, when you look at laptops online, you have a great chance to finding one for a great deal.  Websites usually have a larger selection and cheaper everyday prices compared to local stores.

Shopping for a new business laptop isn’t as hard as it can seem.  All it takes is knowing what you need and going out and finding it.  With the internet at your disposal, it should be a snap to find a notebook computer that works for you and your job.
