Pell Grants and Getting Laptops
The following article will inform you all about the receipt of Pell Grants and getting laptops.
The Pell Grant program is a federal grant program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education. The Grant assists those in higher education who are in financial need. The grant is named after the U.S. Senator Claiborne de Borda Pell.
Pell Grants are direct grants, the majority of which are awarded to undergraduate students who are in financial need. Pell Grants are targeted towards students who are from poor families. Pell Grants do not require later repayment.
The amount that the student is eligible to receive is based upon Expected Family Contribution, which is derived from the information given on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. During the 1999-2000 school year, it was found that 90% of students in receipt of the Pell Grant came from families whose annual income was less than $41000.
From the 1st of July 2009 through to the 30th June 2010, the maximum Pell Grant award is $5350. This is to increase to $5400 by the year 2012. Today, Pell Grants cover approximately 30% of the cost of a student’s attendance. Students must only receive a Federal Pell Grant from one school at a time.
Participating institutes credit the Pell Grant either to a student’s school account or pay the student directly by check or through a bank transfer. A combination of these methods may actually be used to pay the student. Payment plans are either per semester, per trimester or per quarter. Institutions that do not use formal terms are instructed to pay students who are in receipt of the grant at least twice per academic year. The time the grant is disbursed widely varies between institutions. Funds may be disbursed on the first day of classes or may be disbursed to students in monthly payments.
Pell Grants can be used to contribute to paying the costs of school accommodation, tuition, fees and other expenses related to education.
Obtaining Pell Grants and getting laptops for educational use is just one acceptable use for a Pell Grant.
